REDUCING WASTE AT THE FESTIVAL
Here are some great tips for reducing waste at this years show. Please recycle!
Pre-event
Pack for waste reduction!
- Remove any unnecessary packaging (plastic wrap, cardboard, etc.).
- Choose packaging, when unavoidable, that is recyclable rather than disposable.
- Bring reusable cups, utensils, and plates.
- Bring bags for garbage and recyclables so you can separate as you go (source separation) and take to the appropriate container when full.
- Buy food and other necessities in bulk.
- Don't bring any bulky items such as couches, tires, etc. and, if you do so, plan to take them with you when you leave.
During event
Sort recyclables properly and place garbage in trashcans, please!
- Glass - empty contents & sort by the various colors (brown/green and clear)
- Plastic - all empty plastics accepted
- Aluminum - crush cans, if safe to do so, before placing empty can in recycling bin
- Cardboard - flatten and place by recycling bins
Respect the porta-potties, sinks/showers, volunteers/staff, and your fellow Reggae-goer!
Post-event
Pack it out!
- Sort any leftover recyclables properly.
- Take as much of your waste with you as possible, please.
- Before departing, spend 15-minutes picking up after your fellow Reggae-goers.
WHY, you ask?
1) Keeps your ticket costs down (approximately $70,000 is spent every year on waste generated from Reggae Rising),
2) Assists in the mission of Reggae Rising, and
3) Helps the environment (recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for 3-hours or a 100-watt bulb for 4-hours).
Please be respectful of the land and the community - place trash and recyclables where they belong.
