After crafting three immaculate full albums of outstanding reggae tunes, New Kingston has returned this year with a much more “mature” release, a term that is usually code for either boring or uninspiring.
Come From Far is our experience; as a family, as musicians and as human beings living in a world where anything is possible.
The new album titled A Kingston Story: Come From Far, which hit digital shelves this month, is neither of those things. The three brothers along with their father that make up New Kingston still has impeccable ears for melodic, intense tunes. But the lilting, youthful songs that filled their earlier work are now underpinned with weighty roots reggae and dense melodic rhythms.
Radiant, upbeat, and more addictive than the rays of a hot summer sun, A Kingston Story: Come From Far features the warm vocals of Tahir, Courtney Jr., and Stephen, mesmerizing guitar play and beautiful vibes that reggae music enthusiasts around the world would love to indulge in. The album is an alluring and older-sounding effort from New Kingston, and it’s a sensible step forward for the family band.
Courtney Jr. summed up the album title’s message, stating “There's always a moment in life where we subconsciously show gratitude to where we are now by reflecting on where we came from. Come From Far is our experience; as a family, as musicians and as human beings living in a world where anything is possible.”
